Amazon currently serves 17 different marketplaces around the world, and some saw higher growth during the months of the pandemic than anticipated. February is usually the slowest month for eCommerce, however, countries like Italy, Singapore, and India were hit before the United States. With lockdowns taking place during February and lasting through May, in some locations, consumers got hooked on the online shopping habit.
Overall, Amazon added one billion monthly visits, making it one of the most popular websites in the world. Some figures are skewed because of recent launch dates like the Netherlands, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. Given this, Singapore still grew 100%, with the next highest growth was Turkey at 75%.
These significant gains show how important diversification and globalization are in the marketing mix. While not all products will sell well in every market, it is better to have them out there or have access to these markets in order to exploit these opportunities in the future.
